Underlying Philosophy

An "outside the box" alternative

Fifty to sixty years ago, it was said that any American child could grow up to be President of the United States.  Today, everyone knows that only those who can amass millions of dollars could ever hope to run for that office, given the current political environment.  That is a shame and an injustice.  It is un-American.  Why should the office of President (or any other political office in this nation) be available to only the wealthy and politically connected?  That situation breeds a dangerous class division and distrust in the political system as a whole.  How would an Abraham Lincoln ever become President in the current environment?  As a result of the current situation, many good Americans are disillusioned and are disengaging politically.

Here’s the idea for at least a start to solving the problem.  It was born out of a desire to fight back in a tangible way to return the political process back to the hands of common, hard-working, tax-paying Americans.  Rather than being restricted to play the political game by the current rules and within the existing fixed playing field, why not bypass the whole system and elect a President in 2012, without respect to current political parties, campaign finances, or dependency on the mainstream media?  What if politically engaged, hard-working Americans actually chose their next President?

Imagine the effect of electing a President with little or no campaign finances!  It would be revolutionary to our current political system.  Instead of fundraising, Ideas would again be placed at the center of the campaign.  A candidate’s qualifications and support would depend on his character and core principles, not his campaign warchest.  Healthy competition would be injected into the election process, and undeserving ideas would lose influence as financial backing loses center stage.  Money would talk less, and the voices of hard-working Americans would be heard more.  Imagine, too, how  eliminating a campaign warchest would free up elected officials from ties to special interests.  Governing could proceed with no strings attached, save to execute the duties  of the office and to uphold the Constitution.  It’s an idea that could spread to every election for every political office.

What if all of this could be accomplished without spending hours or days or weeks in a campaign office or displaying campaign signs?  What if hard-working Americans could be significantly politically engaged by spending a few moments each week at their computer or on their smart phone?  We have the technology to do it.  We just need to be organized enough to make it happen.

STAY TUNED:  JULY 4, 2011, WE WILL BEGIN TO IMPLEMENT THE PLAN!
